  • International Training Course on Organic Agriculture

    International-Training-Course-on-Organic-Agriculture-1

    Why do we need ITCOA?

In East Africa, organic agriculture has become an option to further innovation towards healthy agro-ecosystems. While a growing number of smallholder farmers are willing “to go” organic, the expansion of organic agriculture is limited by the lack of training capacities of universities in the field. A development towards healthy agricultural systems requires a pool of ‘agents of change’ with visions and competences to facilitate community-based innovation and change processes.

    What is our goal?

The overall goal of the training course is to contribute to the sustainable development of ynamic agro-ecological systems in the region by building capacities of future decision makers in organic agriculture. The training course is a cross-country effort of stakeholders in organic agriculture. The six previous ITCOA courses (2005-2011) have shown tremendous success in building students’ knowledge and skills in organic agriculture for placing them in positions in the private and public sector.
